For patients wearing orthodontic appliances, please see the below information that describes how orthodontic emergencies/repairs are handled.
Direct injuries to the mouth or teeth:
Following a direct injury to your mouth or teeth, while undergoing orthodontic care, you should contact us as soon as possible. If a tooth has been knocked out, severely displaced, or fractured, we may need to contact your family dentist or oral maxillofacial surgeon so we can coordinate treatment with them. If orthodontic appliances are dislodged or displaced we will need to replace or adjust them as soon as possible. Please call our office immediately to reach us or obtain our emergency contact information. If you are unable to reach us please call your family dentist or an alternate emergency facility.
Emergencies related to orthodontic appliances:
Broken or loose brackets or appliances and poking wires may occur during your orthodontic care. If you are experiencing cuts or sores on your tongue, cheeks or lips, it may be helpful to place some wax on the brackets where the pain is. We should have provided you with wax at your last appointment.
Call our office as soon as possible so that we can evaluate the urgency of the problem and schedule you to be seen accordingly. In the case you do need assistance outside of business hours, please call our office and our voicemail will give you the emergency contact information.
